2011 in Review

With the New Year, it's time to review the projects I had on my list for this year and check the progress I have or have not made.

Projects:
1. Eu Care - oyy, I've been abysmal at this in 2011.  I've completely neglected this after the big burst of activity at the end of 2010.  I've been buried in work and really need to pick this up again.
2. Comics (with working titles) - suddenly very energized about this.  I anticipate pouring time into it this year.
3. Screenplay/Storyboard - It's hard to imagine that it's been a full year and I haven't really touched this.  It was originally my goal to submit this for a pitch last year.  Well, let's make that the goal for this year.
4. Programming - have not done much, but have decided on Ruby as the language to learn.
5. Facebook Apps - nope
6. Personal Web Site - :( nope, another year of paying to sit on my domain...
7. Sewing - have not been sewing aprons this year, but have done a few sewing projects for friends
8. Give Matt hair - no activity recently
9. Wall art - no progress
10. Giclee printing - got printer recommendations from Emma.  may buy one this year (Canon Pixma 9000, Epson stylus pro 3880)
11.  Macarons  - It has been the project of the year.  Michael and I have both pretty much mastered it, but can still use some refinement and some experimentation with flavors.
12.  (new)  Wings! - Michael and I want to experiment with making good wings since there really aren't any good wing places nearby (except for Hot Sauce and Panko in the city).  We're trying to pair them with some interesting sides too.

New Year, new laptop

About 3 weeks ago, I came back to a seemingly frozen laptop.  The mouse was unresponsive, as was the keyboard.  No biggie, I thought and force rebooted it.  That's when it stopped loading up at all.  It would power up, light up, but never boot up.

Thankfully, the hard drive was just fine.  After getting an enclosure for it and a new laptop, I'm pretty much back where I started.  But it feels sad to let go of my laptop of the last 5 years.  Interesting, but when I get new things, they feel like toys, exciting, but not emotional.  But when I'm parting with them after our time together, it feels like I'm losing a very helpful friend.

So here's a list of some of the things that the old laptop helped me accomplish:
  • rejuvenate my interest in drawing/painting
  • started me on my screen writing project
  • helped me research macarons
  • helped me learn to silkscreen and order all the supplies I needed
  • helped me start Eu Care
  • helped me start planning my wedding
Thanks old friend.  You did well.
And hello new laptop.  I'm sure we'll get along great.  I hope you like projects, because I like to stay busy.  Here's to doing great things!
